INCLUSIVE BUSINESSES"


The PEEE is working in a line of investigation on Inclusive Businesses (NOR) or work with Base of the Pyramid (BdP), which in ample terms talks about the form to approach problems of poverty by means of market mechanisms . This approach leaves from the idea that the private sector is able to create social value to the time to operate with yield objectives and that the development of initiatives in this frame benefits with the aid of other actors, are these ONG, governments or agencies of development, among others, thus like of the own community of the taken care of BdP.

Program young enterprising

In the frame of the “Day of the Young Entrepreneur”, made in San Fernando the 18 of December of 2008 and organized by the Program “Creation of companies led by young people in the Region of O`Higgins”, 2008-2010 (agreement FGDR- BID/FOMIN), was developed the Class on CSR. This Class was in charge by the Program of Enterprise and Economic Ethics of the University Alberto Hurtado (PEEE) dedicated to the subject: “CSR: Push the innovation and an effective antidote front to the crises”, where the CSR in the context of crisis and the Inclusive Businesses was approached.

The Class on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) on the theme: "CSR: Push for innovation and an effective antidote against the crisis," began with a talk by Beatriz Calderón, Director of PEEE on "Socially Responsible Business Management: Antidote against a cash crisis. " This presentation emphasized the role of companies facing the challenges of productivity, equity and environmental sustainability that are countries such as Chile. Most urgent challenges in the current context that demands a more responsible capitalism and a model of corporate governance, reflected in CSR, which only seeks to do business "as usual" but in a different way. Thus, together with the membership and enhance relationship with the community, can be more efficient and limit the risks posed to the environment.

Then we developed a panel on "Inclusive Business: an opportunity for innovation and social progress", whose aim was to publicize the potential of this new business approach that involves people of low-income or Base of the Pyramid-in value chain, while remaining profitable for companies. This approach has a high potential value for the articulation of regional companies with new business arising from the wording of youth program.

This Panel, moderate by Carolina Carrasco of the Multilateral Bottom of Investments of I.A.D.B.-Chile, counted on the participation of three expert directors in the matter, presenting/displaying the following subjects:

These presentations gave account of the concrete experience of inclusive businesses within diverse sectors of the productive sector, illustrating how from the market the challenges of the poverty can be taken care of. This approach, that acquires increasing priority in several companies, implies to reformulate the models of businesses, developing innovation in several scopes of the value chain and articulating with actors who allow to harness the development of local capacities to generate a circle virtuous company-community and economic-social development.
